“When Everything Around You Feels All Upside Down”

“When Everything Around You Feels All Upside Down”

When everything around you feels all upside down,

It’s so easy to replace your smile with a frown.

But you really shouldn’t do it, please don’t you dare,

Knowing all those around you still truly do care.

Your smile is needed to brighten or own windblown days,

It’s helpful and reassuring in so many ways.

If you don’t think you can, please do give it a good try.

Paint a smile on if you must, just ask any clown guy.

Even when things in your life seem blown sideways and tossed,

With a smile –  Friends, Hope, and Love are never truly lost.

So please keep on smiling, dear one, that’s my heart’s wish for you,

For when we smile long enough, even big wishes come true.

    • Thanks for visiting, Cat! As you would probably suspect, Little Red Bear is not very fond of fleas, but I like the idea a lot and will try to sell him on the concept! May be a tough sell, though. 😀

  1. Jim, I absolutely loved your poem. I have always believed in the power of a smile, whether given or received, and the power of positivity whenever possible. That is not to say that we don’t all have our moments of stress or troubles, but when we can break through it with a smile, suddenly, the world seems a brighter place.

Thank you for sharing your lovely words.

  2. One of my favorite uncles was a clown for the Shrine Circus each year and other events, so Emmett Kelly was a legend in our home as I was growing up. You know how things go in revisions, rewrites, and edits, with things changing back and forth, over and over. But that was one particular line that was set in stone from the moment it arrived on the page. Thanks for the lovely comments! 🙂
